Accessing Technology in Detroit

COVID-19

As we all continue to adjust to the limitations of living through a global pandemic, there are signs of hope as some facilities and services begin to open. We can now eat at a restaurant and shop at stores, while taking appropriate safety precautions, like wearing masks and keeping a safe distance away from others. Just this week, Governor Whitmer announced that Detroit casinos could reopen with limited capacity. Soon, school will be back in session, and for some students, that could mean a return to actual classrooms in school buildings.

For some, the local coffee shop or a restaurant around the corner may also be the place used to access the Internet, and the re-opening of some of these places has actually increased digital access as well. Given that there is a need for more technology and more Internet access for families in Detroit, we have compiled a list of other places that one can go to access computers and Wi-Fi. We know that schools have been providing students with devices and Internet access (like hot spots) when possible and that some schools have even extended their Wi-Fi so that students can access it from the parking lot. In addition to these places, other community institutions are providing these valuable resources to students and families.

We recommend calling before going to any of these places to ensure that you will be able to access resources.
