From the Chair of the Community Education Commission

Greetings on behalf of the 11 members of the Community Education Commission.

We are a nonprofit commission formed in May 2018 by the Mayor of Detroit for the purpose of providing educational resources to students and families that go beyond the classroom. As a group, we represent district and charter schools, community organizations, state and city government, civil society and philanthropy, teachers and parents.

The Community Education Commission’s first achievement was to launch the GOAL Line, which provides students in Northwest Detroit transportation to and from any of 10 schools in the area, plus access to no-cost, high-quality after-school programming at the Northwest Activities Center. The Goal Line begins service in the fall of 2018.

On, you will find accurate information about schools from all parts of Detroit, including whether or not transportation is provided. In each directory listing, we note closest Detroit DOT bus stop or line for each school. We share whether or not a school has before or after care and if there’s a fee associated with those programs. We recognize that students’ school hours do not always align with parents’ work hours, which is why selecting an educational fit is based on the overall day and schedule of the entire family.

We call this 1.0, because it has been designed with parents to suit their needs – and we recognize that, with your help, we’ll be constantly updating and adapting the information we collect and organize to make it better in the future!
