Letter from the Board Chair

During the past two years, the Community Education Commission (CEC) has provided parents with transparent, detailed information on every public school in the city of Detroit, both traditional and charter. The Detroit Parents’ Guide to Schools has become a trusted source of information for parents, grandparents, and caregivers in search of the best school fit for the children in their care. This year's guide will meet and exceed expectations by becoming primarily digital, which will allow us to keep it updated regularly, so the information is always current. We have also simplified the name and now present to you the Detroit Schools Guide.

The CEC remains committed to fulfilling our mission to provide needed wraparound support services for Detroit school aged children, even in the midst of the COVID-19 health crisis.  We have partnered with the City of Detroit and other nonprofits to create www.covid313.org, an online platform filled with important information and critical resources to help families navigate the educational landscape during this unprecedented time in our city, state and country.  We have also created videos and virtual parental support groups that our families can access, to provide coping strategies and suggested enrichment activities they can do at home.  Please visit our website for additional information, www.cecdetroit.org.

The 2020-21 guide features information on school culture and top extracurricular activities. It also has an expanded parent resource section, which includes information on early childhood education, career and educational resources for parents. It’s designed for use beyond the start of the school year and its primary online platform allows us to keep the information current and easily accessible, removing the challenge of trying to locate paper copies

We trust the Detroit Schools Guide will become your go to source for school information and parental resources, as you plan for your child’s educational success.
